Fatima Abu Roomi's works, which break down the borderbetween drawing and painting, between the covered and the exposed, deal withsocial boundaries and their relation to covering and exposure. They look attraditional Arab clothing with critical eyes as part of the policing machinethat controls and punishes women in a patriarchal society.
"Many have asked, but it is exactly the opposite- these are the parts that are not painted, this is the original sketch I makebefore I add the color to the painting. The intention is to create tension anddrama in the painting of construction versus demolition, so that the paintingappears to be building itself and painting itself and to be erasing the color".
